HI,

here I am reflecting back to my incredible trip to India - contributing my time and energy to an event "Communication for CHange. AN Experiment in Social Change" 5-12 January 2006.

I has been most amazing experienc in my life! It already started  very extraordinary for me - I felt such a strong desire to go and contribute and being encouraged by organisers John Abbe and Kumarjeev to do my own fundraising, I stepped out from the shadow and did it. Started in England at June session's reunion. And that was really scary! To ask for help and specially for money. But I did it and it was a major step forward in my personal development. I felt like I have been starting to live instead of watching carefully from aside. So first contributions game from England and I left there with very first £85 for this trip and I am most grateful to fellows who choosed to contribute!

THe things developed most amasing way when I was back home and preparing for my trip. The timeperiod for getting visa was very limited becourse of my England trip but my visa got ready just before departure and there were again helpful people who brought my passport and document back from Helsinki Indian Embassy to Tallinn. But travel money was still not there! I choosed to send out requests for support to many companies but non of them answered positively. SO I got inspiration from webpage http://globalcitizenjourney.org/fundraising.asp and desided to try also ask for help from ordinary privat people. I sent out my emails with request about three days before departure and that what was happening was just overwhelming. People started to contribute and all the energy behind those contributions was just amasing - they sent money - some of them very little some of them 10 times more than I asked and almost all of them included their warm wishes! It was once again a real inner journey for me. Looking at my bank account and seing all those contributions was overwhelming in a positive way and I felt surprised, touched, moved and deeply grateful! During those three days all my ticket moeny was collected by privat people! And I started my journey - my very first trip to India!

I was told by many friends that India is really different but I couldn't imagine how different can "different" be! ANd also the size of this country! Incredible! The traintrip from Dehli to Nagpur took one night and half a day. And my friends' words:"Ask anything at least form three different people!" were proved  again. The train personnel gave me wrong arrival time and if I hadn't remembered this advice and asked from another person I could end up in another end of India!

I arrived to Nagpur around lunch time on 5th and having been practising two days in Dehli being in my center and taking care for my needs (to protect my ressourses) was already taff enauhg to bargain about rikshaw to receive an agreement that was satisfying for both - for me and for driver.

 +
Luckily rikshaw driver found the place smoothly and first face I met in retreat's office was Simon! I felt very grateful to him for taking care for me and sharing all the nessessary information about local habits, retreat organisation etc. After one and half day travelling it was relaxing to land in a cool room with hot shower and "western toilet". THis was the very first day of retreat. In the evening there was first gathering for "NVC people" and we were around 10 persons in this sharing cirkel. We were informed by the background of  those 3,5 thousand people joining retreat and most surprising thing for me was to hear that the name of Gandhi is not advisable to use or to refer on his work! It appeared that Dr Ambedkar who was the person writing first independent India's constitution was coming from Dalits (lowest cast in India) and commited whole his life to bring principles of fraternity, liberty and equality into practice. Gandhi appeard to be in opposition wiht him at one point and therefore it was not recommendable to use his name as possible trigger for many people. We were also discussing the aim and possible other trigger words and concepts to gain more in same line understanding and to find common words to use while sharing NVC. We were also told that main goal s to give to participants real life empathy to their pain and oppression and to model empathical listening process. I didn' thave yet the feeling that something really big and extraordinary is happening. Second day Marshall arrived and almost all participants were there. DAy started with getting familiar with each others - that meant that every one who represented some different country or region was asked to sing somthing in native langauge! Wau" What a challenge - it was first time in my life to sing for three thousand people (and I guess some Estonian popsigerswould envy hearing this!)! I also shared how I got there and a big aplous was made for contributors who helped me to reach retreat to share gifts of NVC. Later one man game and shared how inspiring and meaningful it was for him to hear how I gathered my travel money.

People in retreat lived, seated and eated separetly - men from women. There were maybe about 20 "white" people and all the attentione that I got from local inhabitants was sweet but time to time really overwhelming, so I choosed to protect my inner space by spending after lunch hours in my room and regaining energy. It was yet not very clear how and where our NVC sessions would find place. But life is really selforginising in India. SO we started to connect and people got interested about NVC and the first agreements about sessions were made just on grassroots level. I was also told that " plans are not working in India" - life proved it again. After lunch time on second day I had understood we had an agreement with group of students from ... but nobody was on agrred place. Instead there appeared a young men who reported to be my translator and he also claimed that there is a place and people waiting for my session. Well-well-well! I thought these are "my students" but surprisingly it was another group of people (men) size 30 probably. I had in the beginninglittle anxiety in my stomack but while speaking I restored my connection with myself and got inspired by talking and sharing what was in my heart. I shared my passion about NVC and life-enriching culture. At the end of session there were bunch of young men left who spoke english and they got so inspired that wanted to have another session. At the same time some people got upset because they felt as "left out" and they did not want to let those youngsters to the session on next day! Luckily I remebered listen to them empathically before finding any strategies. It was at the same time bit challenging becouse my translator was so helpful and creative that it took a while before he really translated only those sentences that I asked. ANd it worked! THose men left with a smile on their face and they agreed to be in the same room with youngsters also next day (and they really did!) So it started for me. I had two and sometimes three sessions per day and it was highly inspiring for me! I felt so touched and inspired seing how people received my gift - how there were sparks in their eyes and they wanted more and more and more. One evening we had a group of young people - boys and girls sitting mixed together (that was quite extraordinary for this retreat) and did the session together with John Abbe about self empathy. I enjoyed a lot cooperation and playing together with John and Youngsters did not want to quit when agreed session time was over. but I felt that I needed some space for myself and some rest so we found a way how both needs their need for learning and my need for rest were met. What I felt most enjoyable for myself and seemingly for participants also that I did not share the model or mechnaics but I choose to share what was in my heart - my passion about life enriching systems inside and outside, my passion and deep beliefe about every single person's inner power to change their lives etc. I also found it very nourishing for me to meet other people (about 20) from different places all over world sharing nvc in different ways. So this event was really great inspiration for me because it was til some extent really selforganising and it worked both ways - it was inspiring to share with participants as well amongst our group and it was nourishing to receive those gifts of gratitude and see people eyes sparkling and to warm up some old connections and to create lots of new ones.

 +
Back in Dehli I had also oportunity to give two nvc sessions (about anger and self-empathy) to SAHELI women - volunteer organisation that is training women for selfdefence, communication etc. Women's situation in India is really scary. I couldn't believe that it can be so in the same planet in same timeperiod. It really helps me to be grateful for the freedom and equality that we have in Europe and at the same time provoked in me wish to do more to help our sisters in India.

 +
I felt in love with Indida  - with both - this country's pain and beauty. So I really hope that I can contribute more sharing what I have with our sisters and brothers in India. I want to go back there and share nvc for longer period next winter!
